Bear Republic Brewing Company – Café Racer 15 Double IPA

Rating: 4.25/5

Hops: Citra, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook

Straight from Healdsburg comes another awesome hop bomb.  The beer pours a cloudy orange-amber with a slightly off-white head.  Aromas are tropical – mango and pineapple along with some sweet malts.  Deeper are some piney, resinous notes as well.  This one is smelling like their Apex Special IPA and you can tell the ABV is amped up.  Well balanced on the flavor, not too bitter, not too sweet.  Apex had much more sweetness to it, which I like to see.  Best by 10/18/14 – not sure how long they date these but they’ve only been out for a month or so.  If you’ve had Racer 5, this is basically just the DIPA version of that with a few added hop varietals.  Tops the scales at 9.75% ABV and 100+ IBU.  I’m a huge fan of Bear Republic in general and I love this beer.  Just enjoyed this on tap at a Bear Republic brewery night and got to take home the pint glass.  Cheers!
